When Disaster Hits, Bilingual Help Can Save Precious Time

When catastrophic flooding devastated parts of Texas, Alfonso Solis cut short his vacation and headed to Kerr County to help families searching for missing loved ones. What made his presence especially valuable was not only his rescue experience, but his ability to support Spanish-speaking families who were struggling to get information. Moving between reunification centers, funeral homes, and search teams, Solis became a bridge between grieving families and emergency systems during one of the state’s most painful disasters. His work showed that in times of crisis, bilingual support is not an extra—it is essential.

Alfonso Solis channeled his personal loss into a mission for gun safety, launching family-focused Send Me DFW courses to combat gun violence.
