Standing With Families in Their Hardest Hour

Some of the most meaningful community work happens quietly, away from cameras. In one North Texas case, Alfonso Solis helped support a family facing two devastating crises at once: the death of a son and the detention of a daughter by ICE. He also helped the family identify a cruel social media scam that used an AI-generated video to exploit their fear and grief. Stories like this show that service is not always about rescue in the field—it is also about protecting vulnerable families from misinformation, fraud, and emotional harm when they are least able to defend themselves on their own.

San Juana Jiménez Rocha suffers from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and Alzheimer's; moreover, this is not the first time she has gone missing, but on this occasion, her family has gone several days without knowing her whereabouts. "She was upset with us because, in her mind, she was going to get married that day," notes Mary Saracay, Jiménez Rocha's daughter. One of the family's primary concerns is that the woman is not taking her medication, though the extreme heat is also a source of distress for them.
